Experience Overview

This one-day clinic is designed to teach you how to handload ammunition for your Gunwerks rifle that duplicates the performance of the Gunwerks ammunition your rifle was designed to shoot. 

  • Safety considerations for handloading ammunition

  • How to select the necessary components and reloading equipment

  • How to assemble a round that is identical to the Gunwerks factory ammunition

  • How to determine what the maximum powder charge (load) is for a specific set of components.

  • How to fine tune a load for improved long range accuracy.

In this course you will utilize our Long Range University rifles in 6.5 Creedmoor, and we will provide all the equipment and components.  Even if you do not own a Gunwerks rifle you will learn the process to develop an accurate long range load for your rifle. 


There are no prerequisite courses to attend any of our clinics however you will get the greatest benefit from the course if your bench shooting technique is dialed when you get here. This clinic is normally run on Friday immediately following our L1 and L2 classes to make it convenient to maximize your learning experience by attending all three events in one week.

Long Range University Overview

Long Range University exists for the specific purpose of helping you make quick ethical one shot kills in the field. The core of our content is contained in our L1, L2, and L3 classes which utilize a building block approach to provide education and training in every factor which impacts your lethal hit probability. Interwoven throughout all three classes is a training strategy which will improve your ability to function under pressure and significantly extend the range and conditions under which you can take an ethical shot. At Long Range University you will learn to recognize when the conditions are not suitable to ensure a lethal hit. 


You will use our Gunwerks Shooting systems during the L1 and L2 classes, however what you learn will apply to any long range shooting system. Using a Gunwerks rifle system and ammunition for this course facilitates and accelerates the learning process. This allows you to focus on the core class content and leave equipment concerns to the instructor. Put wear and tear on our rifle not yours.


In our L3 class we encourage you to bring your personal rifle regardless of manufacturer. This is where you really learn the capability and limits of your “system” which includes you and your marksmanship ability, your rifles capability, your ballistic program, and your ability to compensate for wind and other environmental conditions, all in a realistic mountain hunting environment.

Our L1, L2, and L3 classes must be taken in sequential order and provide a comprehensive learning experience. We also offer “Clinics'' which are a deep dive into a specific topic or weapon system. There are no prerequisite classes to attend any of our Clinics.

The ultimate in training is live field application. For the next step in your journey to proficiency, we offer several different training / hunting experiences with Gunwerks vetted outfitters in different environments. From Barbary Sheep in the mountains of West Texas, to beginner friendly Antelope in New Mexico, to freezer filling Cow Elk in Oregon, all provide a fantastic experience and help you achieve the next level of capability in the field. 



Itinerary

Day 1

  • Arrival - Please do not arrive at the range facility before 8:30 AM.
  • Safety brief and Classroom material
  • Range - Shoot Gunwerks factory ammunition to get once fired brass and establish accuracy baseline
  • Reloading bench and Range - Duplicating the Gunwerks factory ammunition
  • Lunch
  • Reloading bench and Range - continued
  • Reloading bench and Range - Establishing maximum powder charge exercise
  • Reloading bench and Range - Fine tuning for enhanced accuracy exercise

Training Headquarters

Burlington, Wyoming
Gunwerks Training Headquarters was developed and constructed in 2013 on a 250-acre parcel that was designed specifically to facilitate an immersive training experience. The range features a known distance set of steel targets out to 1,000 yards and an array of practical targets for multiple shooting exercises. The heated and air-conditioned classroom with full amenities enables quick transition with a few short steps from classroom to shooting drills in our covered shooting bays.

The facility is located in Burlington, WY approximately 45 minutes East of Cody. Students are responsible for transportation to and from the Gunwerks Training Headquarters. Please arrive no earlier than 30 minutes before scheduled class start.

Gunwerks will provide a catered lunch. Please let us know if you have any dietary restrictions ahead of time, so we can facilitate meals for you.

Generally not. After class wraps up at 4:00 PM, the instructors are busy prepping the range for the next day. The Shooting System Readiness Clinic, which is scheduled on most Fridays following a Level 2 class, is designed to thoroughly test and confirm your equipment.

Class starts at 9:00 AM and wraps up about 4:00 PM. Please do not arrive before 8:30 AM

Student Cancellation

Training/Competition:
If you cancel a training registration more than sixty (60) days prior to the earliest event date, your deposit will be refunded in full.  If you cancel a training registration less than sixty (60) days but more than thirty (30) days prior to the earliest event date, you can rebook the training or competition for an available alternate date.  If you cancel a training registration less than thirty (30) days prior to the earliest event date, all payments toward the class are forfeited and non-refundable.

Gunwerks Class Cancellation:
In rare circumstances, Gunwerks may need to cancel a class. If this occurs, you will be notified as soon as possible and given the option of either a full refund or a move to another course of the same value. Gunwerks reserves the right to change or amend these policies at any time.
