WHY WE MAKE OUR OWN BARRELS
OWNING THE PROCESS
Unlike mass-production shops, we shoot every barrel we make. Each barrel is tested because every single one is made in-house.
We build the best rifle systems because we control every part of the process - from raw material and precision equipment to groove diameter, twist rate, and lapping. Every machine is state-of-the-art, and if one didn’t exist that could meet our standards, we built it ourselves.
After years of R&D, we’ve determined which bullets perform best for hunting. Because we maintain absolute control over manufacturing, Gunwerks barrels are perfectly optimized for Gunwerks ammunition - resulting in rifles that are more accurate, more consistent, and simply better than the competition.
THE GUNWERKS PROCESS
Too many manufacturing practices rely on theory, tradition, and volume - and the results never lived up to our expectations. So, before we ever offered a Gunwerks barrel to a customer, we spent years in research and development.
We tested everything.
CRAFTED FOR PERFORMANCE
- Specially-sourced, stress free German 416R steel begins its transformation with deep-hole bore drilling, reaming, honing, and rifling.
- We've procured the leading technology in boring equipment, but could not find a rifling machine that met the Gunwerks standard. So we built it.
- Every Gunwerks barrel is cut-rifled. This method produces less stress than other rifling techniques . Our cut rifling creates unmatched dimensional stability and total control over groove diameter, groove depth, twist rate, and more.
- Every barrel is hand-lapped to perfection. Why? Because no machine can replicate the finesse of a skilled barrel technician. Hand-lapping reduces bullet distortion, minimizes fouling, and delivers consistent accuracy, shot after shot.

GROOVES & TWISTS
Data-Driven Performance
Gunwerks follows results, not fads. Our barrels use an even number of grooves (not the 5-groove hype) to maintain a perfectly centered chamber - one part of the “Gunwerks Secret.”
Every caliber we make has a distinct twist rate matched to our Gunwerks Ammunition. We’ve done the testing to know exactly where bullet stability, accuracy, and ballistic coefficient align for each caliber.
CARBON INNOVATION
LIGHTER. STRONGER. SMARTER.
In 2010, Gunwerks became the first challenger to Christensen Arms - the only carbon-barrel producer in the world at the time. We partnered with a carbon fiber leader to disrupt the market and develop better processes. Before we were finished, our partner was acquired and innovation ceased. We seized the opportunity to develop a carbon-wrapping process we could stand behind 100%.
Our proprietary, random carbon wrap maintains a uniform structure along the entire barrel - with no heavy or thin spots. It won’t flake, chip, or delaminate, and uses minimal resin to avoid performance-robbing weight.
Why carbon fiber?
Modern hunters expect the weight savings of a carbon barrel and modern rifle design demands the aesthetic. Some competitors claim carbon improves heat dissipation or accuracy, but, in full transparency, carbon fiber does not have a performance advantage over a steel barrel of equal weight.
What carbon fiber does provide is a thicker contour barrel at the same weight of a thin steel barrel. The benefits of design, aesthetic, stiffness, balance, and suppressor compatibility lead us to prefer carbon fiber.

CONTOURS
Consistency at Every Length
Every Gunwerks barrel contour is crafted with the same muzzle diameter - regardless of barrel length. Other manufacturers simply chop the barrel back and call it good. Our process takes more time, but delivers superior balance, harmonics, and the best fit-and-finish in the industry.

MUZZLE THREADS
5/8" x 24 for maximum compatibility.
All Gunwerks barrels are threaded at the muzzle to accept a suppressor, muzzle brake, or thread cap. It is mandatory for the modern hunter to be able to utilize a suppressor on their rifle system. Each barrel contour maintains a consistent muzzle diameter, regardless of barrel length, for optimal suppressor compatibility.
*NOTE:
The HamR has 1" 14TPI threads, and the HamR mini uses 5/8-24
MZ series uses 3/4-32
.450 Bushmaster use 3/4"x 24 muzzle threads.

CHAMBERING EXCELLENCE
Perfect chambers, every time.
Long before we advanced carbon barrels, we pioneered CNC chambering. For over 20 years we’ve refined a process that produces chambers so consistent that we don’t need to custom-handload for each rifle.
Our custom CNC tooling creates exact throat length and perfectly concentric freebore - both critical for precision and accuracy. Extremely tight tolerances, optimized headspace, and specialized lead angles tuned for high-BC bullets deliver chambers with performance you can count on.
