Experience Overview

License / Tag information - You will need to purchase a Texas 5-day Exotic Special Hunting License with a start day the first day of your hunt. This hunting license is available on line. TROPHY FEES ARE NOT INCLUDED IN THE UP FRONT COST. Please refer to the list below of current trophy fees which are subject to change. Ram Aoudad - $4500 Ewe Aoudad - $500 Bull Oryx $4200 (Low fence hunting, sometimes Oryx are there and sometimes they are not) Cow Oryx $3800. Blackbuck and Transcaspian Sheep are available. Call us for current pricing. Trophy fees will be payable to Cibolo Ranch upon completion of your hunt.

With this Experience, you will have the opportunity to test your equipment and skill in the Chinati Mountains of West Texas. The Chinati Mountains top out at over 7000 feet and provide one of the roughest desert mountain hunting experiences available. Each evening you will enjoy the 5-star accommodations Cibolo Ranch is famous for. Your "Experience" will start with our Long Range University 1-day Shooting System Readiness Clinic. This 1 day clinic is your opportunity to gain familiarity and confidence with your rifle and ensure it is ready for your hunt under the guidance of a Gunwerks instructor. -

  • You will confirm zero, and build a ballistic profile in a ballistic app.

  • You will validate the data by shooting at distance, true your profile if necessary and load into your ballistic rangefinder.

  • Confirm the system is functioning properly by shooting targets at different ranges using the data generated by your laser rangefinder.

  • We prefer you bring your own rifle however we can provide a rental rifle if necessary.

  • For your hunt you will be paired up with another hunter and spend 3 days hunting low fence Aoudad, or exotics of your choice.

LRU Training Tracks Overview

Long Range University exists for the specific purpose of helping you make quick ethical one shot kills in the field. The core of our content is contained in our L1, L2, and L3 classes which utilize a building block approach to provide education and training in every factor which impacts your lethal hit probability. Interwoven throughout all three classes is a training strategy which will improve your ability to function under pressure and significantly extend the range and conditions under which you can take an ethical shot. At Long Range University you will learn to recognize when the conditions are not suitable to ensure a lethal hit. 


You will use our Gunwerks Shooting systems during the L1 and L2 classes, however what you learn will apply to any long range shooting system. Using a Gunwerks rifle system and ammunition for this course facilitates and accelerates the learning process. This allows you to focus on the core class content and leave equipment concerns to the instructor. Put wear and tear on our rifle not yours.


In our L3 class we encourage you to bring your personal rifle regardless of manufacturer. This is where you really learn the capability and limits of your “system” which includes you and your marksmanship ability, your rifles capability, your ballistic program, and your ability to compensate for wind and other environmental conditions, all in a realistic mountain hunting environment.

Our L1, L2, and L3 classes must be taken in sequential order and provide a comprehensive learning experience. We also offer “Clinics'' which are a deep dive into a specific topic or weapon system. There are no prerequisite classes to attend any of our Clinics.

For the next step in your journey to proficiency, we offer several different training / hunting experiences with Gunwerks vetted outfitters in different environments. From Barbary Sheep in the mountains of West Texas, to beginner friendly Antelope in New Mexico, to freezer filling Cow Elk in Oregon, all provide a fantastic experience and help you achieve the next level of capability in the field.

Yes, the accommodations are all single room, single bed. If they require a separate bed or room there will not be sufficient lodging space. Please select the "Non-hunting spouse" ticket when registering to add a non hunting observer.

Aoudad are an incredibly tough animal despite only weighing about 300 lbs . We believe 7mm and 30 calibers are ideal, and the 6.5 Creedmoor is the absolute minimum.

Cibolo Creek Ranch encompasses both rolling flat land and incredibly steep mountains. Hunting is generally spot and stalk style and most areas can be accessed by vehicle. If you have physical limitations, your guide will be able to accommodate you. If you like to get off the beaten path where the biggest trophies are often found, they can accommodate that as well.

No. The ranch will store the meat in a meat locker. You will be responsible for transporting and paying for the meat processing.

No. The guides can provide recommendations in the general area. You will be responsible for transporting your trophy and making arrangements for taxidermist services.

The training day we incorporate before the hunt is not a L101 or 201 course. It is what we call our Equipment Readiness Course, designed to ensure your rifle, ammunition, and ballistic program or ballistic rangefinder are all zeroed, synced correctly, and match the atmospherics at that location. We also incorporate some shooting drills designed to prepare you for the conditions you are likely to encounter on that hunt.

You need to purchase a "Texas 5-day Exotic Special Hunting License" with the start date being the first day of the event. You may have an opportunity to hunt the first evening after shooting school wraps up.

Weather and Terrain - The elevation averages 5000 to 6000 feet. We have hunted in 80 degree weather and we have hunted with 6 inches of snow. In addition there may be some long early morning side by side rides so please bring plenty of warm and waterproof clothing. The terrain is steep, rough rocky and thorny so we recommend mountain boots and thorn resistant clothing.

Lodging:

Your destination is The La Cienega Hunting Lodge on Cibolo Creek Ranch outside Marfa, Texas. The lodge offers accommodations for up to 12 guests. Lodging and meals are included in the cost of this experience. The lodge features a fully staffed kitchen and one of the best chefs of all the locations we visit.

Travel Description:

Cibolo Creek Ranch is located in the heart of Big Bend Country and an easy drive from the eclectic minimalist art town of Marfa, Texas. Both El Paso and Midland International Airports are an approximate 3-hour drive allowing you to discover and uncover more of the great State of Texas. Check-in between 4-6 pm local time the night before the event.

If you plan to travel by commercial airline please note the drive time to return to the airport on the final day.

Your destination is the Cienega Fort (Located across Route 67 from the Cibolo Creek Ranch Headquarters) in Shafter, Texas.

  • From Marfa, Texas drive south on Route 67 for 30 minutes (34 miles)

  • Pass the gated entrance to the Cibolo Creek Ranch Headquarters on your right

  • Continue for another 1/2 mile and turn Left on Favor Ranch Road

  • Continue on the dirt road for 9.6 miles following the signs to Cienega Fort

Please make car rental plans with your flight arrangements. Gunwerks does not offer transportation from the airport.

Student Cancellation

Hunt:
If you cancel a hunting event (other than an African hunt) more than one hundred twenty (120) days from the start of the hunt, your deposit can be moved to another class (not refundable). If canceled less than one hundred twenty (120) days from the start of the hunt, all payments toward the class are forfeited and non-refundable.

Gunwerks Class Cancellation:
In rare circumstances, Gunwerks may need to cancel a class. If this occurs, you will be notified as soon as possible and given the option of either a full refund or a move to another course of the same value. Gunwerks reserves the right to change or amend these policies at any time.

Deposit/Final Payment Schedule

  • A 50% deposit is required for reservation

  • Balance due 120 days prior to a hunt event to maintain your reservation - don't worry, we'll remind you when it's time!
