        Job Summary
        The Set-up and Programming Machinist is a critical member of a production team, literally transforming engineering CAD designs into production ready parts accompanied with all supporting fixturing, programming and quality checks. This Machinist will utilize new, state of the art CNC mills and lathes in a new, state of the art production facility. This position is on the manufacturing floor, solving the most cost-efficient means of product production and manufacturing, and translating these processes to manufacturing operations. This Machinist works side by side with the design engineers to evaluate designs for machinability, process optimization, process timing, identify and design fixturing, and provide a manufacturable workflow processes to hand off to machine operators. Gunwerks has a fast paced product development team providing endless opportunities to work on new projects.  In this environment we will also be able to provide many opportunities for exposure to the best manufacturing machines, technology and processes in this market segment. The Level 2 Machinist is expected to spend 50% of their time programming new parts daily and 50% of their time implementing those CAM programs to create new parts and assemblies. Gunwerks is a growing long-range rifle system manufacturer that is constantly pursuing how best to serve its customers with “1,000 yards out of the box” turn key rifle systems.

        Job Responsibilities

        • CAM programming and technical support for 3, 4 and 5 axis CNC mills and CNC lathes

        • Machine set-up and operation of complex and quick turn prototype and production parts

        • Estimating CAM and Machine routing times

        • Interpret engineering models, drawings or sketches to fabricate parts and assembly hardware in support of R&D programs.

        • Provide innovative input, as appropriate, to engineering staff to help meet overall program goals

        • Set up, adjust and operate machine tools including, but not limited to, manual and CNC mill, CNC turning center, various saws, and drill press.

        • Use all applicable precision measuring tools including micrometers, calipers, verniers, height and depth gages, gage pins and blocks, etc.

        • Review work requested and determine best methods and sequences of operations to fabricate parts efficiently and cost effectively

        • Maintain and operate all machine tools in a proper and safe manner

        • Keep machines, tools and equipment clean and well maintained.

        Job Skills and Qualifications

        • Minimum 2 year machining degree (vocational or associates) 

        • 5-10 years experience with CNC operation, setup, and programming in a manufacturing environment

        • Multi Turret lathe experience required

        • 5-Axis Mill experience required

        • Horizontal Mill with pallet pool experience a plus

        • Must be able to read, understand and interpret engineering drawings, 3D CAD models, and assembly drawings

        • Strong engineering and problem-solving skills in a precision machining environment

        • Proficient in reading and understanding dimensioning, tolerancing, shop math, geometry, Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), and the use of precision measuring instruments

        • Enjoys fast pace and rapidly changing environment

        • Flexible and willing to help others as needs and tasks change often

        • Self-Starter/Self-Motivated/Flexible with the ability to work overtime and/or weekends to meet business needs

        • Mechanically inclined/Good hand-eye coordination

        • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and willingness to professionally interface with engineers during the fabrication process

        • Ability to work with loosely defined designs and fast changing requirements from written or verbal instructions

        • Ability to apply common sense and utilize critical thinking skills

        • Proficient in bench work including drilling, tapping, filing, assembly, and inspection of components for form, fit and function

        • Strong problem-solving skills, thinking outside of the box, creativity, analytical thinking, and positive interpersonal skills

        • Comfortable working in a team environment as well as independently

        • Ability to work with little guidance to meet objectives

        • Safety and quality awareness and compliance are required

        • Meticulous attention to details, accuracy, completeness and aesthetics of final product

        • Exposure to Okuma and Haas machines a plus


        • Minimum 2 year machining degree (vocational or associates) 

        • This position is a hourly, exempt position with full benefits

        • Monday - Friday, 40 hrs per week.

        • Must be able to lift and maneuver up to 50 pounds

        • Attention to detail and the ability to self-inspect work
