Free Range Days

Shooting School at Gunwerks RangeWe would like to invite Gunwerks rifle customers to attend one of our free Training Days this fall. Every month we will have dates available for our customers to come out and shoot their equipment at our private 2000 yard range. Just to make sure you are tuned up and ready for your hunt this fall. The next two dates available are August 27th and September 10th. The Training Day program is offered at no cost to a Gunwerks rifle customer, just bring your gun and ammo. Also, ammo will be available for purchase at the event. Guests are allowed for a nominal fee of $500, which includes a Gunwerks LR rifle rental. The topics covered are similar to the Long Range Shooting School, but abbreviated and informal. Class size is limited, so call to sign up while there is still space available!

We’ve just added a Gunwerks store page to our website to carry all the must have (or at least strongly recommended!) products and accessories for long range shooting.

After several year in development, the first product from our new G7 brand is finally available. The Long Range Ballistic Calculator. Like our long range scope technology, it is very simple to use. It works with any rifle, cartridge, and scope combination. G7 Handheld Ballistic CalculatorYou can build a database of all your firearms, validate your ballistic profile, calculate ballistic compensation, and even dive into advanced parameters like spin drift and coriolis for extremely long shots. We can even calculate G7 BC’s and multiple winds!

As always, we are vitally interested in your confidence in your Gunwerks long range shooting system. We have introduced a Service and Maintenance plan that will allow a yearly check up and inspection of your firearm. We will recalibrate, readjust, and fully clean and inspect your firearm to ensure it is performing to its potential. 1000+ yard shooting is standard. The five year plan is $1000, and single service is $400. Through this summer we are offering the plan to existing customers for half price. Five years for $500! Is Your Chronograph Accurate?

It is a pretty common misconception that the readings that come out of your chronograph are perfectly accurate. Unfortunately, they are not. For a long range shooter, determining Bullet Ballistic Coefficient and Muzzle Velocity is the foundation for ballistic compensation. There are three types of error you should be aware of in your chronograph--Drift, Random, and Systematic.

CED MillenniumSystematic errors occur when your chronograph is out of calibration due to circuitry or screen spacing. Generally, if this type of systematic error can be determined, it can be applied every time you use the device, for example, your chronograph screen spacing is 1/32th of an inch too tight, and the resultant velocity reading is 30 fps higher than actual. You can subtract 30 fps to ALL your chronograph readings to get a more accurate number.

Random errors can be from something like gases disrupting the sensor readings. A large enough sample of shots will minimize these errors.

The last type of error we should be concerned with is Drift. This can occur over time, as circuitry heats up, battery power drops, or mostA Thousand Yard Group commonly, as light conditions change. Measured velocities can change significantly for the same load and rifle during different times of the day. Controlling light conditions by adding a large diffusion screen and reducing bounce with a flat black ground sheet can make readings more consistent. Using artificial light or infrared light is the next step up.

Whats the bottom line? A serious shooter will validate his long range drop data at the range. Use a program to do your calculations for you. Our G7 program will be online this week so check back often!

Aaron and Mike Davidson

Gunwerks Owners Aaron and Mike Davidson Leave The Best of the West and Huskemaw Optics

We wanted to let everyone know about my decision to leave the Best of the West. I started Gunwerks and what became Huskemaw Optics in 2006; then, I joined up with the Best of the West to market our products. Like many partnerships, this one didn’t last, and all parties felt that a split would allow everyone to focus on their own programs. I am dialed in to long range shooting, and this gives us an opportunity to focus on our core technologies and products. We should be adding several new shooting systems and some exciting new long range gear over the next few weeks.

At Gunwerks, we are all shooters, hunters, and outdoor nuts, and we are fully prepared to bring you only the best long range products, shooting gear, and information. We will make no compromises in product quality or features. As always, Gunwerks is committed to excellence and the “Long Range Pursuit”.

If you need assistance or you have any questions, call Gunwerks directly at 877-GUNWERKS (877-486-9375) will ring straight into Gunwerks.
